The very old Achiever flash which I had been using with a peanut slave as my third light for studio work ceased functioning a few weeks back. As replacement, I purchased a 200ws studio flash with heavy duty stand and mini softbox for RM400 from Digicolor, Mutiara Complex.

Testing it back at Celine’s place, I realized that the flash would fire off whatever its capacitors had been loaded with even if they had not been fully charged to the preset output level (due to lack of hard-wired intelligence). So continuously pressing the pilot button would have the flash rapidly fire dim bursts of light. Like a stroboscope.

I was playing around with the new flash like this when all of a sudden, two moderately loud bangs go off from inside the unit, followed by thick puffs of white smoke that smelled of burnt electronics. Celine, who was at her computer the whole time, was pretty amused by the whole scenario: Boy excited over new toy. Boy abuses toy. Toy goes bang in malfunction.
